Redefining Folk: Mapping the new trajectory of Folk music with 23 Fields' 'Berlin'.

Famous for songs about love, life, and nonsense, from politically driven anger to sensitive songs about family and lost ones, UK-based Folk group ‘23 Fields’, are all set to release their lead single ‘Berlin’ off their latest album - ‘To Follow This Years Fashion’. Starting from playing small shows, busking, and playing in teenage rock bands, the trio, funnily enough, began their journey together upon meeting during a haircut by chance!

23 Fields

23 Fields

Not your average folk track, incorporating and balancing acoustic guitar with hints of electric piano wrapped together with band leader Step’s raspy vocals and immaculate percussion on the drums by Jason Smith the listener is instantly transported to a different realm.

Louise Driver on the violin bringing out more colour and texture complementing the ever-groovy bassline powering through to the solo section makes you want to play the track on repeat. Influenced by the band’s early pub-basking days, I can hear a bar room full of people singing and dancing to this gem of a piece. 23 Fields are creating history here; Be sure to witness this, keep an eye out for more songs by this talented group of individuals.  On a side note, in my opinion, the track somewhat matches the aesthetic of the show ‘Peaky Blinders’.
