Awaiting Abigail's “Bad Mind” Screams the Importance of Mental Illness through Music

Awaiting Abigail, a hard rock/metal band is hitting out in the park with its recent EP. The band consists of three high school bandmates—Heather Hammonds (drums), James Smith (guitar), and Laurie Barnett (bass), along with the addition of the father-daughter duo Mike (guitar), Kori Tolfa (keys), and lead vocalist Abigail Hill. It has released an energetic and catchy EP with four songs. This coalition is inspired by “The Pretty Reckless,” “Halestorm,” and "In This Moment,” to create mix tracks for audiences of varied tastes.

“Bad Mind,” is a song from the EP that is a one-of-its-kind motivational anthem. It talks about the struggles and triumphs of battling mental illness. Filled with 7/4 beats that thump through your heart, it undeniably catches your attention towards an important topic. The vulnerability and rage of the song are mellowed by the soulful voice of Abigail. The beginning of the song impactfully mentions the tales of mind. But as you are soaking in the lyrics the fire of the chorus hits you. The message of fighting against the evils of the mind is heavily portrayed with the medium of thunderous guitar sections. This song gives the voice to many who aren’t able to scream their doubts, making a statement for the world to listen to.
